WEEK 1 LEARN

Working in pairs, students will:

  • Discuss tools:

    • Wrench vs ratchet, how to use both

    • Sizes: Metric / Imperial

    • Toolkit etiquette

    • Torque

    • Left and right threads

    • How to operate a motorcycle lift

  • Remove seat

  • Disconnect fuel rail and remove fuel tank

  • Remove rear brake cluster

  • Remove front and rear indicators

  • Remove front brake lines

  • Release rear brake drum mechanism

  • Remove front and rear fenders

  • Remove chain, rear and front wheels

  • Remove kick starter

  • Disconnect final drive

  • Disconnect electronics

  • Drain oil

  • Remove oil filter(s)

WEEK 2 BUILD

  • Build an understanding of how an engine works:

    • Explore the difference between two and four stroke engines

    • Valves

    • Carburetor

    • Fuel injection

    • Gear box

  • Build an understanding of engine maintenance​

  • Explore suspension

    • Spring rate​

    • Preload

    • Damping

    • Rebound

  • Explore electronics​

    • Fuses​

    • Switches (NO and NC types)

    • Types of relays

    • Use a digital volt meter

  • Explore sprocket sizes

  • Build an understanding of chain maintenance, brake pad inspection, maintenance and replacement

  • Begin reassembly of the motorcycle

WEEK 3 CONNECT

  • Finish rebuilding the motorcycle

  • Check systems (electrical and mechanical)

  • Start the motorcycle

  • Opportunity to complete work experience/internship

  • Certificate of completion available
